Biography
Yunmo Zhang is a Chinese-American flutist. His 2026–2027 season is defined by high-profile engagements, including a soloist debut with l’Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and an international tour with the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra under the direction of Jörg Widmann, performing at venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie (Musikfest Berlin) and KKL Luzern.
Zhang’s competitive success includes prizes at the Concours National d’Exécution Musicale (2nd Prize, 2024) and the Concours de Genève (2nd Round, 2023). In 2025, he was the only wind player admitted to the Master Soliste program at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne, studying under José-Daniel Castellon and Loïc Schneider. He previously graduated with top honors from the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris under the tutelage of Vincent Lucas and Magali Mosnier.
A committed advocate for new music, Zhang is currently recording a solo album of contemporary Chinese works by Chen Xiaoyong and Wen Deqing with the HEMU. His expertise in the avant-garde was recently showcased as a soloist in Pierre Boulez’s …explosante-fixe… with the HEMU Contemporary Ensemble.
